What a Week...

So, I think we left off with Bennett being sick. On Thursday afternoon, we learned that Bennett's daycare would be closing in 3 weeks. Ack! It only took us 9 months of pregnancy to locate a daycare and get in due to waiting lists. Friday, I basically got no work done as I called every daycare in our area. Wait list, wait list, wait list. One of the daycare directors even laughed (they are snobby anyway). One of my coworkers told me to try the daycare that the hospital workers use. After visiting one daycare where I saw a caregiver grab a kid up by the arms and not-so-gently fling her onto a mat, I decided it was worth a try. Lo and behold, they do admit "community members" who work for non-profits. They weren't too impressed with my federal gov't job (hello, isn't that the biggest non-profit of all), but they were fine with Arty's city job. I didn't care one way or the other. We took off work early and visited Friday afternoon. This is by far the cleanest daycare I have ever seen. You actually have to use antibacterial gel and take your shoes off before going into the baby rooms. They are run by the same people who run the snobby place, but they were able to get us in, beginning Monday. Yippee! Arty thought he was going to end up being a stay-at-home daddy. Of course, we are paying $70 more per week, but I have never seen a daycare where the teachers were all on the floor playing with the infants. Usually they just stick them in a bouncy chair or the jumperoo. We're excited, and I finally feel like I don't have to worry about Bennett's development suffering. I actually believe they do more at daycare then I would be able to do at home.

Then, with that load off, I got a 24-hour bug Friday night until Sunday. I just love spending my weekend throwing up. But all's well that ends well. We're looking forward to tomorrow. Its Bennett's first day at rich-people daycare!

Another Doctor Visit

Bennett visited the doctor again yesterday. His cold progressed down into his chest, so now he has a touch of bronchitis. He's on antibiotics and Mucinex. His mommy is sick too--Thanks daycare! Other than that, he's doing great.

Tummy Time

Bennett has had a cold for the last few days. Snot everywhere. I guess the sore throat the doctor spotted was the beginning of this cold. No fever though, so we're just riding it out. Bennett has been in high spirits despite the snot-sucking. I've never met a baby who enjoyed getting his nose sucked, but Bennett doesn't seem to mind one bit. By the way, Happy MLK Jr. Day! Arty and I were off work today, but we put Bennett in daycare for a couple of hours so we could see a movie. Together. In the same theater, right next to each other. Joy! When we got home, Bennett had a tummy time breakthrough. He didn't scream for at least 5 minutes, and he reached for his toy while on his tummy. That boy may crawl yet. I added the second picture because the dogs watching/walking around Bennett while he's on the floor is a common occurrence, but probably only a Wheaton-Rodriguez normality. Today it was Bonita entertaining Bennett. Luckily, Bennett has only been slightly stepped on once, and that was an accident. No tears though! Bennett's a tough kid.

Baby, Its COLD Outside

Who has a camera when they are rushing into buildings to avoid the cold, anyway? Thanks to Aunt Pat and Uncle Jim for this great hat. Its one of the few pieces of outerwear that Bennett tolerates.

How Bizarre!

So, I just got a call from the daycare. They gave my breastmilk to another baby. Big OOPS. If that was my kid, I would be throwing a fit. I believe that all the other babies in his class get formula, so I hope the breastmilk doesn't hurt his stomach. Too crazy!

As for the teething, Bennett went to the doctor today. No teething, no ear infection, but he has a bit of inflammation in his throat so the doctor thinks this could be contributing to his fussiness and wanting to put things in his mouth. Who knows?! I wish Bennett came with a troubleshooting manual until he could talk.

Our own Gene Simmons

Bennett is 18 wks old and has started sticking out his tongue all the time. He'll even do it to mimic you. Let's hope he doesn't start getting into Mom's makeup and painting his face black & white.

Oh Canadian Family

My mom's cousin, Cody, and his family (shoutout to KK, Billy-Joe, Zach, & Henry) came to visit me all the way from Bonnyville, Canada! We had a fun time. Even my Aunt Dana showed up. Family Galore! If only that Henry boy hadn't tried to claw my eyes out. I'm sure we'll be friends once he gets over his jealousy issues. Like I would want his mommy when I have the best mommy ever.

I don't just cry and poop all day

So the Big Boy does a lot of playing now. He also just started laughing. Here is a video where he does both.

Stats

Bennett just got back from his check-up, and according to his Daddy (Arty took him this time), he is 17 lbs, 8 oz. (between 75 and 90th percentile) and 28 inches long (above 95th percentile). He really is a big boy! His only health concern is a peepee problem, but its easy to correct. Other than that, he's healthy and ready to start solids whenever we want...probably at 6 months or if he shows signs earlier. He's still sleeping about 8 hours a night, so we're all happy here.

Big Boy at 4 Months Old

Unfortunately, that means Bennett gets his big boy shots tomorrow. Poor baby!

2008...Off to School

Happy New Year! I (Allyssa) went back to work, and Bennett started daycare. Its tears all around. We're trying to keep it together, but its going to be an adjustment. I went to nurse Bennett at lunch time, and he seemed happy--no tears. So, I hope my baby is doing better than I am. Anyone want to pay for a nanny? I'm taking donations!
